Southern pecan leaf phylloxera (Homoptera: Phylloxeridae): Clonal resistance and technique for evaluation
Environmental Entomology 12 (3), 916-918
Abstract: Forty-six pecan clones (cultivars or selections) were artificially infested with the southern pecan leaf phylloxera, Phylloxera russellae Stoetzel, to determine resistance. The trees were inoculated by attaching branches from 'Mahan' trees infested with overwintering eggs. Thirty-two clones were resistant, and 14 showed various degrees of susceptibility. Some clones formed small galls from the introduced nymphs but formed normal size galls from a native or indigenous population.
